Day of Awareness - Skill Share FUNdraiser & Potluck
Please Join us for our annual FUNdraiser event as we gather together for a day of community, sharing, learning, and celebration.
As we honor and give recognition to the people of the Americas this month, this is the perfect opportunity to come and meet some of the Ancestral Knowledge staff and learn more about our organization and its vision. Our organization is rooted in the teachings of our founders mentor Tom Brown Jr, and his mentor Stalking Wolf: coyote teaching methods of honing the senses and awareness taught through ancient earth skills.
Through coyote teaching methods we share the wisdom teachings, skills, and awareness exercises throughout our various programs to preserve this way of learning and carry on Tom's and his Mentor, Stalking Wolfs vision, bringing all the children, no matter their age, back to the earth. Ancestral Knowledge aims to strengthen participants' sensory awareness skills to their fullest potential. We focus on developing a solid foundation and expertise in ancient earth skills, including fire by friction, stone tools, shelter building, and foraging, among others. Our goal is to instill confidence and knowledge of the natural environment while fostering a deep connection with the earth.
The funds we raise from this event will be going towards scholarships for those who wish to participate in our various programs, maintaining the Primitive Camp in West Virginia, and securing our new Base Camp here in Riverdale, MD so we can invite individuals, families, and groups of people to experience what it means to connect with Nature through ancestral skills and teachings. We feel this mission of teaching ancient earth skills based on a reciprocal, respectful, and knowledgeable relationship with Nature is one of the most beneficial and valuable ways humans can be spending their time in this day and age.
In today's modern society, it’s easy to become absorbed in our screens and completely overlook the world around us.. Each day, we miss countless events—whether it’s a squirrel gathering materials, the courtship calls of a mockingbird, or the mass migration of the towhee. Cultivating awareness is an invaluable skill that requires effort these days. By enhancing our awareness, we not only deepen our understanding of the natural world but also unlock “mysteries” in our own lives. This practice makes it easier to predict events, understand nature, and navigate challenges that may seem overwhelming.
Come join us for a beautiful day of cultivating the senses through fun nature based activities, in community. We invite you to sharpen your senses, deepen your connection to the Earth, cultivate stillness, and discover your own inner resilience. As the day draws to a close, we'll gather around a crackling fire, sharing stories, laughter, nourishing food, and song.
Come be in community, honor those who came before us, and help us to keep growing and expand our reach to even more people through these invaluable teachings. and immersive experiences.
We will be starting at 12 noon. We have a full day of activities planned, then at 5pm we will have our community Potluck. We hope that you will join us for the evening and contribute some yummy food to be followed up by a campfire with story telling and a night time awareness exercise.
When: November 16th, 12pm-8 pm (potluck at 5pm followed by campfire stories and more awareness skills share)
Where: Riverdale Maryland
